Volunteer Opportunity - Mentors Needed

Fork Shoals School
Job Description
My name is Caelin Stambaugh. I am one of the school counselors at Fork Shoals School.
We are actively seeking new mentors for the incredible elementary students we have at our school. Mentors are a community member that is partnered with a specific child at our school. Mentors typically visit the student about once a week. They can be “lunch buddies” for our students to eat with, or just a drop by/check in for the student during the day at a convenient time for the mentor.
Mentors can have an overwhelming impact in the life of a child. It is amazing to see the difference in the attitude and demeanor of a child who knows they have someone that is invested in them, that cares about their day and what’s happening in their life, and is willing to be there as a person for them to talk with and that can hold them accountable. So many children do not have a strong support system in their life. By simply having lunch at school with a child once a week and just talking with them, getting to know them, students feel as if they have someone that truly cares about them who they can rely on. That bond is essential to the way students perceive their ability to succeed in whatever they aspire to become.
It brings so much joy to the heart to walk through the door and watch your mentee’s face light up when they see you! However, in our school of about 750 students, we have very few mentors. We are desperately hoping to find more mentors for the overwhelming number of students at Fork Shoals who would benefit greatly from the presence of an encouraging, caring, and supportive community member for them to look up to.
If you are interested in being a mentor, we would love to have you! Please reach out to us so that you are able to fill out the application, be trained, and matched with your mentee as quickly as possible. We are holding a mentor training at Fork Shoals School on Wednesday October 18th at 5pm. The training will be done by a professional from Mentor Upstate. If you are not able to make this training, but are still interested in being a mentor, please reach out to us! We can discuss training you at a time that works with your schedule.
If you have any questions about the program or decide that you would like to be a mentor, please contact me (Caelin Stambaugh) at (864) 355-5049 or by email at
We are so appreciative of you all considering this opportunity to be an extra support in the life of a young child who needs you. We can’t wait to hear from you soon!
Thank you so much for your time!
